Medical Scanner - OFFWORLD MODELS ::: The Art Of Mark Nohrnberg

Medical Scanner

These are 1/8 scale models of a new medical scanner. Three models were made and a fourth model was reworked and upgraded from an existing model made overseas. The scanners all have their own carry-on suitcase to travel the world.

All of the main body parts are machined from ABS plastic. the bed is acrylic.

My part in all of this was disassembling the original figuring out how it was made, refinishing the modified parts, matching and repainting a new more accurate color, and finally lots of polishing.
Then it started all over again on the new models we made.

The bed slides on linear bearings they were smooth and fun to play with!  The client brought me parts of the real machine to match my colors too. Hand polishing the bed was the most difficult part all of the sharp edges want to wear through to the primer. I added lots of clear coat  to prevent wear but it's still risky.

The graphics went down under the clear coat so I could polish over them with no damage. the graphics are all INT's also called rubdowns or dry transfers. graphics give a more lifelike appearance.
